Fabable family sized aquaponic system w/ gross env controls (temp, etc)
Provide habitat for raising both plants and fish in a mutuallly supportive closed loop system producing nutritional and medicinal product
Considerations:
- Two primary areas centering around a pond environment for fish and a gravel based rooting medium for plants.
- Good weight distribution or mechanisms for support.
- Modular expansion.
- Moveable (not portable).
- No esoteric materials other than pond liner.
- Good habitat (towards vivarium, with edge zones, aquatic plants and land plants).
- Aesthetics compatable with a residential sunroom.
- Allow for easy data logging and data transfer for students.
- Ability to fit tunnel covering or case for atmosphere control i.e. CO2 mgmt.
Components:
- Bed for growing plants - 20 to 25 Sq ft, 6 to 9 inches deep
- Tank for growing fish - aprox 350 Gallon
- Nominal 12V electrical
- Water pump for water exchange between tank and grow bed
- Microcomputer control of water pump to manage exchange and aeration
- Temperature measurement and logging by micromomputer
- Interface to transfer data and accept control parameters from a laptop computer
